Description

Massive colourless rhombic Gypsum with a vitreous lustre. Gypsum (CaSO4 x 2H2O) can be white, colourless, grey, yellow, red or brown. Lustre is vitreous or pearly on the cleavage surfaces and streak is white. Hardness is 1 1/2 to 2 and cleavage is perfect in one direction and distinct in the two other directions. Gypsum can be untwinned crystals that shown rhombic form but can also be twinned arrowhead shapes with beveled edges. Gypsum can also be granular, massive, fibrous or earthy.
