Description

Original Description: *Incomplete. Malachite (Cu2CO3(OH)2) can be emerald-green, grass-green or dark green in colour. Lustre can be adamantine, silky or dull and streak is light green. Hardness is 3 1/2 to 4 and cleavage is perfect in one direction crosswise. Malachite can be long or short prismatic crystals (rare), radial, fibrous, botryoidal, stalactitic, incrusting or earthy. Azurite (Cu3(CO3)2(OH)2) can be azure-blue or dark blue. Lustre is vitreous or dull and streak is blue. Hardness is 3 1/2 and cleavage is good in two directions. Azurite can be well-formed equidimensional or tabular crystals but also radiating, botryoidal, incrusting or earthy.
