Chlorite ((Mg,Fe)6(AlSi3)O10(OH)8) can be light to dark green or black in colour. Lustre is pearly, vitreous or dull and streak is colourless. Hardness is 2 to 2 1/2 and cleavage is perfect in one direction. Chlorite usually occurs as tabular six-sided pseudohexagonal crystals but can also be foliated, scaly, granular, compact or earthy.
Quartz (SiO2) can range in colour from purple to white. Lustre is vitreous or greasy and streak is white. Hardness is 7. Quartz usually occurs as prismatic crystals that are terminated by double rhombohedrons and have striations crosswise. Quartz can also be massive, granular or disseminated.
