Lapis Lazuli or Lazurite ((Na,Ca)8(Al,Si)12O24(S,SO)4) can be azure-blue, violet-blue or greenish blue in colour. Lustre is dull to greasy and streak is pale blue. Hardness is 5 to 5 1/2 and cleavage is poor in six directions. Lazurite usually occurs as granular, compact or massive but can be dodecahedral crystals (rare).
