Description
Quartz (var. Amethyst) – [SiO₂]
Dense aggregate of translucent, medium to deep violet amethyst [SiO₂] crystals. The specimen consists of numerous closely intergrown, subhedral to euhedral quartz crystals, predominantly short-prismatic to stubby in habit, with well-developed rhombohedral terminations and vitreous lustre.
Colour varies from pale lavender to deep purple, with locally developed colour zoning and variations in translucency. Crystal size and orientation vary across the specimen, producing an irregular crystalline surface. Minor broken or incomplete crystal terminations are present.
