Description
Quartz (var. Rose Quartz)
Small, pale pink to peach-pink aggregate of translucent quartz (var. rose quartz), approximately 4–5 cm across. The specimen displays a crystalline to drusy surface composed of numerous small, intergrown quartz crystals, with locally well-developed crystal faces and terminations. Individual crystals are predominantly subhedral to euhedral and exhibit vitreous lustre.
The specimen is relatively uniform in colour, with minor variation from very pale pink to slightly deeper peach-pink. Portions of the aggregate are more transparent than others. Minor irregular or broken surfaces occur along the margins of the specimen.
Generally, Rose Quartz (SiO2) is the variety of pink, rose-red Quartz. Lustre is vitreous or greasy and streak is white. Hardness is 7. Quartz usually occurs as prismatic crystals that are terminated by double rhombohedrons with striations crosswise. Quartz can also occur as granular, disseminated or massive.
