Description
Sample of blue/violet Opal embedded on the substrate. Pearly lustre.
Opal (SiO2 x nH2O) can be white, yellow, pink, red, brown, purple, green, grey, blue or colourless but can show a play of colours as well. Lustre is vitreous or pearly and streak is white. Hardness is 5 1/2 to 6 1/2. Open usually occurs as massive, botryoidal, reniform, stalactitic or earthy in form.
