Description

Sample of red/brown prismatic euhedral Zircon crystal with an adamantine lustre embedded on several small crystals of Calcite. Zircon (ZrSiO4) can be grey, brown, yellow, green, red, transparent (Hyacinth), colourless or smoky (Jargoon). Lustre is adamantine or vitreous and streak is colourless. Hardness is 7 1/2 and cleavage is indistinct in two directions parallel to prism faces. Zircon usually occurs as simple short prismatic crystals showing square cross sections that are terminated by the pyramid. Zircon can also be irregular lumps or disseminated grains.
