UNB-2018-0034Minerals » Phosphates » Arsenate

Description

Sample of greenish-brown to olive-green short, thin acicular crystals of Olivenite with an subadamantine lustre that is embedded on short, euhedral prismatic white Quartz crystals that have a vitreous lustre and are terminated by double rhombohedrons. Average Quartz crystal size: 0.5 cm x 0.4 cm x 0.35 cm. Olivenite (Cu2AsO4OH) can be olive-green, greenish-brown, brown or yellowish in colour. Lustre is vitreous or subadamantine and streak is colourless. Hardness is 3 and cleavage is poor in two directions. Olivenite usually occurs as elongated or short prismatic to acicular crystals but can also be tabular (rare), globular, reniform, fibrous, massive, granular, earthy or nodular. Quartz (SiO2) can come in a variety of colours from white to purple. Lustre is vitreous or greasy and streak is white. Hardness is 7. Quartz usually occurs as long or short prismatic crystals that are terminated by double rhombohedrons. Quartz can also be granular, massive or disseminated.
