Description

Sample of white/colourless subhedral rhombohedral Calcite with a vitreous lustre that is embedded on pale to dark green Adamite that appears as drusy crusts. Adamite (Zn2(AsO4)(OH)) can be light yellow, honey-yellow, brownish yellow, pale green, yellowish green or colourless (rare). Lustre is vitreous and streak is white to pale greenish. Hardness is 3 1/2 and cleavage is good in one direction and poor in a second direction. Adamite usually occurs as prismatic or horizontal elongated crystals but can also be drusy crusts or aggregates. Calcite (CaCO3) can be white, colourless or pale shades of grey, yellow, red, green, blue or brown and black when impure. Lustre is vitreous or dull and streak is white. Hardness is 3 and cleavage is perfect in three directions forming a rhombohedron. Calcite usually occurs as rhombohedrons, scalenohedrons and prisms. Calcite can also be tabular, acicular, cleavable, granular, compact, stalactitic, oolitic or earthy.
