Description
Sample of steel-grey foliated Graphite on massive colourless/yellowish Quartz with a greasy lustre. Quartz is slightly encrusted with sediment. Graphite size: 1.4 cm x 1.7 cm x 0.1 cm.
Graphite (C) can be steel-grey or iron-black in colour. Lustre is metallic and streak is greyish to black and shining. Hardness is 1 to 2 and cleavage is perfect in one direction. Graphite usually occurs as foliated, scaly, granular or earthy forms.
Quartz (SiO2) can come in a variety of colours from white to purple. Lustre is greasy or vitreous and streak is white. Hardness is 7. Quartz usually occurs as long or short prismatic crystals that are terminated by double rhombohedrons and have striations crosswise. Quartz can also be granular, massive or disseminated.
