Description
Sample of greenish grey compact/granular Wernerite.
Wernerite is the former name of the Scapolite group that consists of two members; Marialite (Na4(Al3Si9O24)Cl) and Meionite (Ca4(Al6Si6O24)CO3). Scapolite can be colourless, white, grey, greenish or bluish, pink, violet, brown or yellow (rare). Lustre is vitreous and streak is white. Hardness is 5 to 6 and cleavage is distinct in two directions. Scapolite usually occurs as crude short prisms with a square cross section but can also be compact, fibrous, granular that can sometimes have striations along the crystal faces.
