Description
Sample of euhedral trapezohedron Pyrope crystals that have a vitreous lustre and are deep red in colour. Average Pyrope crystal size: 0.7 cm x 0.4 cm x 0.3 cm.
Pyrope (Mg3Al2SI3O) is part of the Garnet group and can be a deep red to a reddish black in colour but can also be purple, rose or pale purple (rare). Lustre is vitreous and streak is colourless. Hardness is 6 1/2 to 7 1/2. Garnet usually occurs as dodecahedrons and trapezohedrons crystals but can be compact, lamellar or granular.
