Description
Sample of tabular Molybdenite on Quartz, that is slightly deformed. Size of the Molybdenite crystal: 2.7 cm x 1.4 cm x 0.2 cm.
Molybdenite (MoS2) is a bluish lead-grey mineral with a metallic lustre. Streak is greyish black but can be greenish on white unglazed porcelain. Hardness is 1 to 1 /2 and cleavage is perfect in one direction. Molybdenite usually occurs as well-formed tabular crystals but can also be scales, foliated masses and rarely as fine granular.
