Description
Sample of light green, thin subhedral prismatic Vesuvianite crystals. Vitreous lustre. Average crystal size: 0.5 cm x 0.3 cm x 0.15 cm.
Vesuvianite (Ca10Mg2Al4(SiO4)5(Si2O7)2(OH)4) can be brown, green, rarely yellow or blue in colour. Lustre can be vitreous, greasy or resinous and streak is white. Hardness is 6 1/2 and cleavage is poor in one direction. Vesuvianite usually occurs as short prismatic crystals with square cross section can also be columnar, granular or compact.
