Description

Rectangle cut-block of intertwined grass-green Malachite and azure-blue Azurite. Azurite (Cu3(CO3)2(OH)2) can be azure-blue or a dark blue and has either a vitreous or dull lustre. Streak is blue and hardness is 3 1/2 to 4. Cleavage is good in two directions. Azurite usually occurs as equidimensional or tabular crystals but can also be radiating, botryoidal, incrusting or earthy. Malachite (Cu2CO3(OH)2) can be emerald-green, grass-green or dark green with an adamantine, silky or dull lustre. Streak is light green and hardness is 3 1/2 to 4. Cleavage is perfect in one direction. Malachite can be radial, fibrous, botryoidal, stalactitic, incrusting, earthy and can be short or long prismatic crystals (rare).
