UNB-2017-0236Minerals » Tectosilicates
Description
Three samples, one is missing. The two present samples are orange/red Citrine crystals. The larger of the two samples is of short, euhedral prismatic Citrine crystals that are terminated by double rhombohedrons. The smaller sample is of small, granular Citrine crystals with a vitreous lustre. Largest crystal size: 1.7 cm x 1.0 cm x 1.0 cm.
Quartz (SiO2) comes in a large variety of colours and when it is yellow to orange-red in colour it is known as Citrine. Lustre is vitreous or greasy and streak is white. Hardness is 7. Quartz usually occurs as long or short prismatic crystals that are terminated by double rhombohedrons and have striations crosswise. Quartz can also be granular, massive or disseminated.
