Description

Sample of yellow/brown arrowhead subhedral Selenite crystals with beveled edges. Lustre is vitreous. Largest crystal size: 3.6 cm x 1.4 cm x 0.6 cm. Selenite (CaSO4 x 2H2O) is a variety of Gypsum that is usually colourless but can brownish yellow, brownish green, grey green or grey white. Lustre is vitreous and pearly on the cleavage and streak is white. Hardness is 1 1/2 to 2 and cleavage is perfect in one direction and distinct in two directions. Gypsum usually occurs as rhombic crystals but can also have an arrowhead appearance with beveled edges, granular, massive, fibrous or earthy.
