Description

Sample of two large yellowish "wheat sheaves" of Stilbite. Pearly lustre is visible on the cleavage planes. Largest crystal size: 5.5 cm x 2.5 cm 2.0 cm Stilbite (NaCa2Al5Si13O36 x 16H2O) can be white, greyish, yellowish, red to brown in colour with a vitreous lustre that is pearly on the cleavage. Streak is colourless and hardness is 3 1/2 to 4. Cleavage is perfect in one direction. Stilbite usually occurs as bladed aggregates that resemble "wheat sheaves" but can also be radial, globular or tabular (rare).
