Description

Two samples. The smaller of the two samples is white with black film/tarnish. Crystals are acicular/capillary with a vitreous lustre. The larger sample is acicular and has a more silky lustre. Mesolite (Na2Ca2(Al6Si9)O30 x 8H2O) can be white or colourless and has a vitreous or silky lustre. Streak is colourless and hardness is 5. Cleavage is perfect in two directions. Mesolite usually occurs as acicular or capillary crystals but can also be fibrous, delicate or divergent in form.
