Description

Pink/green euhedral prismatic Apatite embedded on pink/red massive Calcite. Apatite lustre is vitreous and Calcite is dull. Largest crystal size: 2.2 cm x 1.0 cm x 1.4 cm. Apatite (Ca5 (PO4)3(F, Cl,OH)) can come in a variety of colours such as green, brown, red, yellow, violet, pink, white or colourless. Lustre can be greasy or vitreous and streak is white. Hardness is 5 and cleavage is poor in one direction crosswise. Apatite is usually short or long prismatic crystals but can be tabular, massive, coarse granular, compact, stalactite, earthy or even oolitic in form. Calcite (CaCO3) can be white, colourless or pale shades of yellow, red, green, blue, brown to black when impure. Lustre can be vitreous or dull and streak is white. Hardness is 3 and cleavage is perfect in three directions forming a rhombohedron. Calcite usually occurs as rhombohedron or scalenohedron but can be prismatic, tabular, acicular, cleavable or granular in form.
