Description

Two samples. The smaller sample is light yellow/colourless of euhedral dodecahedrons Grossular crystals. The larger sample is dark green-brown subhedral dodecahedron Andradite crystals. Average Grossular crystal size: 2.4 cm x 1.4 cm x 1.0 cm. Average Andradite crystal size: 1.7 cm x 1.5 cm x 0.8 cm. Grossular (Ca3Al2Si3O12) and Andradite (Ca3Fe2Si3O12) are the calcium silicates of the Garnet group and ranges in colours from yellow to brown but can also be colourless. Lustre is vitreous and streak is colourless. Garnet usually occurs as dodecahedrons and trapezohedrons crystals but can also be compact, lamellar, granular or disseminated.
