UNB-2017-0180Rocks » Minerals

Description

Two samples with octahedron euhedral Galena with small yellow/brown granular Sphalerite. Adamantine lustre. *Samples are missing. Galena (PbS) is a dark lead-grey mineral that has a metallic lustre and a dark lead-grey streak. Hardness is 2 1/2 and cleavage is perfect in three direction at 90 degrees. Galena commonly occurs as cubes and octahedrons but can also occur as dodecahedrons, massive, cleavage fragments, coarse or fine-grained or fibrous. Sphalerite (ZnS) can be yellow, brown, red, green or black in colour with a resinous, adamantine or submetallic lustre. Streak is light brown that is always lighter than the specimen. Hardness is 3 1/2 to 4 and cleavage is perfect in 6 directions. Sphalerite usually occurs as tetrahedral or dodecahedral with rounded faces but can also be cleavage masses, granular, compact or botryoidal. Julcani Mine is an Epithermal Deposit with breccia pipes/stockwork and veins with Silver that also has Pb-Ag-Cu-Bi-WO3 mineralization. Host rock is dacite domes, tuffs and breccia. https://miningdataonline.com/property/2994/Julcani-Mine.aspx
