UNB-2017-0173Rocks » Sedimentary » Chemical » Dolomite

Description

Sample of several orangel tabular euhedral Wulfenite crystals that show an adamantine lustre on white Dolomite that has a vitreous lustre and is granular to compact in crystal habit. Wulfenite (PbMoO4) can be orange, yellow, brown, yellowish grey or whitish in colour. Lustre is either resinous or adamantine and streak is white. Hardness is 3 and cleavage is distinct in one direction. Wulfenite usually occurs as pseduo-tetragonal because of twinning, but can also be tabular, thin, cube-like, massive or coarse to fine-grained. Dolomite (Ca,Mg(CO3)2) can be either white, colourless, pink, grey, green, brown or black in colour. Lustre is vitreous or pearly and streak is white. Hardness is 3 1/2 to 4 and cleavage is perfect in three directions. Crystals are usually rhombohedral with curved faces but can also be granular, compact, massive (Dolomite rock) or cleavable masses.
