Description

Sample of blue, bladed Kyanite that is entwined with colourless granular Quartz. Kyanite (Al2SiO5) can be blue, white, colourless, grey, green or black in colour. Lustre is vitreous and streak is colourless. Hardness varies, with lengthwise being 4 to 5 and crosswise being 6 to 7. Cleavage is perfect lengthwise and good in the second direction. Kyanite commonly occurs as bladed aggregates. Quartz (SiO2) can come in variety of colours from white to purple. Lustre is greasy or vitreous and streak is white. Hardness is 7. Quartz usually occurs as long or short prismatic crystals that are terminated by double rhombohedrons and has striations crosswise. Quartz can also be granular, massive or disseminated.
