Description

Sample of colourless anhedral prismatic Quartz crystals that have a vitreous lustre entwined with brownish subhedral tabular Muscovite with a vitreous lustre. Largest Muscovite crystal: 2.5 cm x 1.5 cm x 0.1 cm. Quartz (SiO2) can come in a variety of colours from white to purple. Lustre can be vitreous or greasy and streak is white. Hardness is 7. Quartz usually occurs as long or short prismatic crystals that are terminated by double rhombohedrons. Quartz can also occurs as granular, massive or disseminated. Muscovite (KAl2(AlSi3O10)(F,OH)2) can be white, brownish, colourless or yellowish in colour. Lustre can be vitreous, pearly or silky and streak is white. Hardness is 2 1/2. Muscovite is usually found as platy of massive specimens that are usually hexagonal in outline. Can also commonly be found as tabular.
