Description
Sample of brownish red crust-like Carnelian.
Carnelian (SiO2) is the clear red to brownish red variety of Chalcedony (Variety of Quartz). Lustre can be dull, vitreous or waxy and streak is white. Hardness is 7. Chalcedony is usually microcrystalline variety of Quartz but can also occurs as crusts that are botryoidal and mammillary forms. Can also be compact or banded.
