Description

Large colourless subhedral cubic Halite with a vitreous lustre. Cleavage is visible. Halite (NaCl) can be colourless or have tints of grey, yellow, red or blue in colour. Lustre is vitreous and streak is white. Hardness is 2 to 2 1/2 and cleavage is perfect in three directions at 90 degrees. Halite is usually found as cubic crystals but can also be granular, cleavage fragments and compact. Salty taste.
