Description

Grey Dolomite with cubic euhedral brass-yellow Pyrite embedded on Dolomite. Visible striations on the Pyrite. Average crystal size: 0.3 cm x 0.2 cm x 0.1 cm. Pyrite (FeS2) is pale-yellow to brassy-yellow in colour that can be tarnished brown or black or iridescent. Lustre is metallic or iridescent and streak is greenish black. Hardness is 6 to 6 1/2. Pyrite is usually found in cubic form but can be octahedral. Parallel striations are seen on the crystal faces. Dolomite (CaMg(CO3)2) can be white, colourless, pink, grey, green, brown or black in colour. Lustre is vitreous or pearly and streak can be white. Hardness is 3 1/2 to 4 and cleavage is perfect in three directions that form a rhombohedron. Dolomite is commonly found as rhombohedral with curved faces, massive (Dolomite Rock) or cleavage masses.
