Description
Numerous small euhedral trapezohedrons of black Melanite crystals with a vitreous lustre. Average size of crystal: 0.3 cm x 0.1 cm x 0.1 cm.
Andradite (Ca3Fe2Si3O12) is a calcium silicate of the Garnet group. Andradite has a variety different colours and when it is black it is known as Melanite. Lustre is vitreous and streak is colourless. Garnet is found usually as dodecahedrons or trapezohedrons but can also be granular, lamellar, compact or disseminated.
