Description

Orange and yellow small euhedral prismatic Vanadinite crystals with a resinous lustre. Entwined with colourless subhedral rhombohedron Calcite that has a vitreous lustre. Average Vanadinite crystal: 0.4 cm x 0.1 cm x 0.1 cm. Average Calcite crystal: 0.5 cm x 0.4 cm x 0.3 cm. Vanadinite (Pb5(VO4)3Cl) can be ruby-red, orange, brown, yellow or multicoloured with a greasy, adamantine or resinous lustre. Streak is white or pale yellow and hardness is 3. Vanadinite is found usually as small prismatic crystals that can be hollow but can also be fibrous, incrusting, compact or globular. Calcite (CaCO3) can be white, colourless or pale shades of grey, pink, yellow, red, green, blue, brown or black when impure. Lustre can be vitreous or dull and streak is white. Hardness is 3 and cleavage is perfect in three directions that form at rhombohedrons. Calcite is commonly formed as rhombohedron or scalenohedron but can also be tabular, acicular, cleavable, granular, compact, stalactitic, oolitic or earthy.
