Description

Kingdom: Animalia Phylum: Brachiopoda Class: Rhynchonellata Order: Spiriferida Kingdom: Animalia Phylum: Brachiopoda Class: Strophomenata? Five specimens labelled a to e; Four specimens belong to Spiriferida, and one specimen appearing to belong to Strophomenata. The four Spiriferids have two specimens with both the brachial and pedicle valves preserved. Prominent sulcus and fold are seen on these two specimens. Thin, slightly weathered costae. Brachial valve is slightly concave near the posterior margin. Triangular/rounded anterior margin and triangular/rounded posterior margin. The other two Spiriferid specimens have one brachial valve preserved with a small Spiriferida embedded where the pedicle valve would be. The Spiriferida specimen has a large fold and prominent sulcus that is visible near the anterior margin. The smaller specimen embedded on this specimen has thin costae and small, prominent sulcus. The fourth Spiriferida specimen is the posterior portion of the brachial valve with the fold faintly visible. The last specimenm likely belongs to Strophomenata, is of the brachial valve embedded on the surface of sediment. Convex posterior end with a small beak. Anterior end is circular and slightly concave. Thin ribs and concentric growth lines and visible near the anterior margin. Posterior margin is rounded in appearance. Prominent delthyrium.
