Description
Sample of salmon coloured, fibrous Scolecite with a silky lustre.
Scolecite (CaAl2Si3O10 x 3H2O) is a white, colourless, salmon coloured, pink, red or green colour mineral. Lustre is vitreous or silky and streak is white. Hardness is 5 to 5 1/2 and cleavage is perfect in two directions. Scolecite usually occurs as thin prismatic "needle-like" crystals but can also be radiating or fibrous.
