Description
Sample of white/colourless short prisms of Scapolite with a vitreous lustre.
Scapolite ((Na4(Al3Si9O24)Cl(Marialite)) and (Ca4(Al6Si6O24)CO3)(Meionite)) can be colourless, white, grey or greenish in colour but can rarely be found as bluish, pink, violet, brown or yellow in colour. Lustre is vitreous and streak is white. Hardness is 5 to 6 and cleavage is distinct in two directions. Scapolite can occur as crude short prisms that have a square cross section. Scapolite can also be compact, fibrous, granular that may have striations on the prism faces or on the cleavage surface.
