Description
Sample of white to colourless cube-like Apophyllite with vitreous lustre.
Apophyllite (KCa4Si8O20(F, OH) x 8H2O) can be colourless, white, grey, greenish, yellowish or reddish in colour. Lustre is vitreous but pearly on the cleavage and streak is white. Hardness is 4 1/2 to 5 and cleavage is perfect in one direction. Usually occurs as cube-like or tabular crystals and can be square in cross section. Apophyllite can also be lamellar, granular or compact.
