Description
Grass-green Malachite with a vitreous lustre that is intertwined with Jasper that is red-brown in colour and has a dull lustre. Jasper is compacted.
Malachite (Cu2CO3(OH)2) is emerald-green, grass-green or a dark green mineral with an adamantine, silky or dull lustre. Streak is light green and hardness is 3 1/2 to 4. Cleavage is perfect in one direction crosswise. Crystals are rare but can be long or short prismatic. Malachite usually occurs as radial, fibrous, botryoidal, stalactitic, incrusting or earthy.
Jasper (SiO2) is composed of microgranular Quartz and/or Chalcedony . Colours ranges depending on the variety for example when clear red or brown is considered Carnelian and Sard. Hardness is 7, lustre can be waxy, vitreous or dull. Streak is white and usually occurs as compact, banded and can show botryoidal forms as well.
