Description

Massive Sulphide with interlayer bands of fine-grained Galena and Pyrite and likely other sulphide minerals. Pyrite (FeS2) can be pale-yellow to brass-yellow that is often tarnished with black or brown film or can also be iridescent. Lustre is metallic and streak is greenish black. Hardness is 6 to 6 1/2. Pyrite usually occurs as cubes or pyritohedrons that have parallel striations along the crystal faces. Pyrite can also occur as octahedrons, nodules, fine to coarse-grained or fibrous. Galena (PbS) is a dark lead-grey mineral with a metallic lustre. Streak is dark lead-grey and hardness is 2 1/2. Specific gravity is 7.4 to 7.6. Galena usually occurs as cubes or octahedrons but can also be massive, coarse or fine-grained or fibrous.
