Description

A material that is NOT an approved mineral species. Rare, complex silicates from high-pressure metamorphism. The Deerite-Howieite group is a pair of closely related chain silicate minerals found in metamorphic rocks, such as blueschist-facies rocks, and meta-ironstones. Deerite was named after William Alexander Deer, while Howieite was named after William D.C. Ramsay, according to Alex Strekeisen. The group is known for its unique crystal structure, which features a hybrid single-double silicate chain. Howieite: Na(Fe2+,Fe3+,Al,Mg)12(Si6O17)2(O,OH)10 Deerite: Fe2+6Fe3+3(Si6O17)O3(OH)5
